Perseverance in the unforgiving wilderness post-cataclysmic event is a common theme when it comes to the survival genre, but there is a distinct lack of cuteness when it comes to the genre. Well, Windpunk is here to save the day by blending the two facets in a very promising way.
If you’ve never heard of Windpunk before now, then that’s understandable. Until June 26, Windpunk went by another name – Wasteland Waste Disposal. To better reflect the nature of the game, and for other reasons that we’ll touch on in just a bit, developer Kluk Digital has decided that a change is in order.
The reveal for the new name of Windpunk came as part of the Moonlite Madness Summer Showcase on June 26. Here’s what you need to know.
Arriving at Windpunk

While Wasteland Waste Disposal was an excellent name that reflected the premise of the game, Windpunk definitely rolls off the tongue in a more pleasing way and is more immediately memorable. But why has Kluk Digital chosen to change the name? And what inspired ‘Windpunk’?
Well, most importantly, gameplay in Windpunk is set to focus heavily on the power of the wind. The element will be used to aid you in traveling around the open-world setting, and it will be used when creating the energy you need to power any machines that you happen to build or find post-Megapocalypse. In that sense, Windpunk makes perfect sense as a new brand for the game.
Survival in the coziest sense

Part survival, part engineering puzzle, Windpunk will challenge you to reverse the apocalypse and bring life back to the barren wastelands left behind. You’ll be blessed with a giant waste refining mecha that will help you traverse the open-world wilderness, recycling materials that you find and helping any people that you find along the way.
Not everything that you meet on your travels will be friendly, and you’ll need to balance the need for innovation with the need for repairs to make sure your mecha-base stays functional. But, if you maintain that harmonious balance, you’ll be able to cleanse new areas, find new items, and eventually create an oasis of peace in an otherwise ruined world.
