The Nerdy Type is a passion project by Paula Vaynshteyn. Writing about myself in the third person feels strange and unusual, so I'm going to go straight into first-person from here on out!
I'm passionate about indie games, their developer's stories, and rooting for the underdog. The video games media space is filled with websites falling over themselves to write content about the "big" games, but very few of them give attention to the small teams developing indie games.
The Nerdy Type started after a well-timed post on X got way more attention than I ever dreamed it would, and it's been a long and bumpy road since then.
That post blew up in June 2025, and I quickly discovered there were a lot of indie developers out there who simply wanted to have their games noticed and written about. As an out-of-work freelance writer, I took that challenge and ran with it, pouring myself into providing coverage for games that otherwise would perhaps have gone unnoticed.
Since then, I've written over 200 articles for this website, sometimes writing multiple articles a day. I haven't made a huge difference and don't claim that I can, but I do feel proud of what this website has become and what I've achieved.
I'm not as active writing here as I once was. There are a few reasons for that, burnout being the biggest of them. Writing so much for such a length of time took a lot out of me, and for a while there, I stopped playing video games altogether. Thankfully, that excitement for upcoming releases is back, though, so you can expect to see me around more often in the near future.
I also run a jewelry business called PV Bootique. Don't worry, I'm not going to shamelessly plug or advertise that business all over TNT, but if handmade chainmaille and alternative jewelry sounds like your thing, you'll find the link below.
