It doesn’t matter when you grew up; the RPG genre has standout games for every generation of gamer. From Zelda to Elder Scrolls, everyone has a favorite RPG that offers a sense of familiarity and peace. Pi RPG is an indie game that’s currently in development, and it seems reminiscent of the Zelda games of old.

Pi RPG is being brought to life by a small team of six indie developers, lending their skills to create something thoroughly charming and packed with potential. It’s still very early in development, but there are signs that this could be something special, and a roadmap that hints at a release very soon.

What is Pi RPG?

Greenery and a path in Pi RPG

Pi RPG has everything that you’d expect from a pixel RPG game of its type: A hero protagonist, a magical realm, monsters to battle, and all of the old-school charm of classic RPG. The as-yet unnamed hero will encounter difficulties on his journey, overcome perilous situations, and enter into battles that they are ill-equipped to get through.

As you explore the open world of Pi RPG, you’ll meet NPCs with quests that allow you to unlock new spells and abilities, making your journey slightly easier going forward despite the scaling difficulty. Thus far, two enemies have been revealed, and they couldn’t be more different. One is a creepy-looking Wraithwalker, and the other is a snail. I don’t know about you, but I’ll take the snail any day.

The future of Pi RPG

According to the website, Pi RPG’s development is adhering to a fairly strict and rapid set of deadlines. The game will apparently enter the alpha stage at some point in Q3 (Fall) 2025, with online co-op capability coming soon after in Q4 (Winter). Small changes such as UI improvements and additional levels will also be added in this Winter update.

Interestingly, the rapid roadmap also suggests that the game will not always look as it does currently. In Q1 (Spring) 2026, an “art overhaul” is set to take place, so images on the website and those seen here are not going to be the final appearance when Pi RPG eventually gets a full release in Q2 (Summer) 2026.

Like I said, Pi RPG is currently in early development, so there isn’t a Steam page or anything of the like just yet. However, you can go and follow Pi RPG on Twitter (X) for regular updates and sneak peeks as development progresses.
